First choice would be a .22 and a pump shotgun. With both guns, you have the ability to get game and still defend yourself. I would also think about looking for a muzzleloader rifle and pistol, because ammo is easy to make and carry. Having said that, any firearm I can find ammo for is better than a sharpened stick and curse words.
