I have a refund to collect from the tube station by my Oyster card !!!?

They told me that I should touch my Oyster card on the yellow reader on the gate to collect the refund. Anybody knows if I have to collect it while I am going in journey through the tube or just touch the yellow reader without having to go in a journey???
