Would I be able to play Sims 2 Free Time on my computer (question about RAM)?

I have 496 MB of RAM and the requirements call for 512 MB of RAM. Since it's so close, do you think I'd be able to run it or not? Also, what could I do to increase my RAM? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm computer illiterate. :)
